Efficiency and Longevity: Revitalizing Your Barge Pump Engine

Redefining Barge Engine Efficiency

In the bustling Inland River systems, tank barges play a crucial role in the transportation of vast quantities of liquid products, including ballast water, chemicals, and petroleum. To endure the demanding marine environment and extended operating hours, reliable and rugged equipment is essential. Laborde Products offers a durable solution with their skillfully designed Barge Power Unit (BPU) or Barge Pump Engine, and its refresh program.

This blog explores the benefits of utilizing Laborde Products' BPU and how it transforms the perception of barge pump engines from disposable units into long-term investments.

Durable Excellence: Laborde Products' Barge Auxiliary Power Unit

Laborde Products understands the challenges posed by harsh marine environments and the need for equipment that can withstand the test of time. Laborde’s auxiliary power unit is meticulously designed with a stainless steel enclosure, offering exceptional resistance to rusting and corrosion. This robust construction ensures optimal performance, even in the face of challenging conditions during inland river operations. While most of the competition utilizes industrial engines for this application it is worth mentioning, Laborde Products builds this product using a 14.6 liter marine propulsion engine with a continuous duty rating.

Key Features of Laborde's Barge Pump Engine

Laborde Products' BPU encompasses several features that contribute to its durability and longevity. These include an aluminum fan shroud and radiator frame, a galvanized skid and lifting eye, a stainless steel hydraulic tank, and components are finished with a corrosion resistant paint. Additional measures such as taping all hose fittings with anti-corrosion tape, sealing the top of the enclosure, utilizing a plastic air cleaner, and employing stainless steel bolts ensure optimal performance and extended lifespan.

C1D1 Compliance and Laborde's Commitment to Safety

What is C1D1 Compliance? In the context of barges and the US Coast Guard, C1D1 compliance refers to the adherence of auxiliary power units (APUs) or other equipment to specific safety standards and regulations set forth by the Coast Guard. These regulations are critical for ensuring the safe operation of equipment on barges, particularly when they operate in environments that may contain flammable gases or vapors. Laborde Products takes safety seriously, and our vapor safe barge auxiliary power unit, (BPU/APU) is designed under C1D1 compliance. With our C1D1 compliant power unit, you can rest assured that your barge engines will operate in a safe and secure manner.

The Barge Engine Refresh Program

To challenge the perception of barge engine pumps as disposable units, Laborde Products has introduced the Barge Pump Engine refresh program. This program enables operators to view the power unit as a long-term investment rather than a short-term asset. By gradually investing in the BPU over time, operators can extend the lifespan of their units, reducing the need for frequent replacements and associated costs. The program empowers operators to maximize their budget allocation and optimize the performance and efficiency of their equipment.
